MS Life Focus
August 25th, 2005
In response to recent surveys by Barna and others, we have strategically changed the South Shore experience for our middle school students. Barna's research group has shown that most kids come to a decision about the significance of Jesus Christ by the age of 14. In addition, they found that these kids tend to keep that perspective for the rest of their lives. As a result we have intensified our emphasis on children and young adults. We have restructured our youth ministry to allow Tony Camp, our Youth Pastor, to primarily focus on middle school students. We have put together Parent Advisory Teams to come alongside Tony to augment this ministry. We have selected a curriculum that helps students not only learn about the Bible, but develop an experience with God at a personal level. The ministry emphasis, supported by this curriculum, provides these students with the tools they need to become effective students for Christ on their campuses and in their circle of influence. Each Saturday Night, we will have a small group experience where students and their leaders can go deep with God. On Tuesday nights, we have Oasis- a place where students can unwind and bring their friends who don't know Christ. This night, designed to unite and invite, helps students build relationships that will eventually lead to a more comfortable invite on Saturday nights. We are excited that many adults have volunteered to help us impact the kids of Sarasota for Christ. If you would like to get involved, contact Youth Pastor Tony Camp at tcamp@southshorechurch.com.
