MS Life Letter from Tony

Dear Parents, Welcome to MS Life Oasis! MSLife Oasis is our mid-week experience designed to give our middle school students a place to invite their unchurched friends, unite as a community of students seeking God and serve others through mission projects. At this point, Oasis will occur each Tuesday and mission projects will be once a month. [Read More]
According to the dictionary an oasis is (1) a fertile or green spot in a desert or wasteland, (2) a situation or place preserved from surrounding unpleasantness, (3) a refuge. Tuesday Nights will be an oasis for our kids! A place where students can come and not feel the pressure to be someone they are not or feel defeated by their culture. Oasis will be a community that is a positive influence on kids and help them to “live in the world but not of it.”
In order to promote a community that kids feel safe and free of pressure and distractions, we realize we must create some guidelines and expectations for our students. Below is a list to help us achieve our goals.

Students and Adults will be expected to…

Dress Modestly! No tight/clingy clothing, no underwear or bra straps showing, no short shorts, no inappropriate logos, and no belly skin showing. We must remember the spirit of the law here! Any students not dressed appropriately will be asked to put on a provided t-shirt to wear. Clothing is a huge barrier to achieving a safe place for kids to be who God has created them to be.
Check Cell Phones at the door! We will collect all cell phones at the beginning of the night and give them back at the end of the night. Cell phones are a distraction and a major divider of the perceived “Have’s” and “Have Not’s”.
Leave IPODS (headphones) in the car! I found it is hard to talk with people and hang out if they have headphones on. We will have music playing during the hangout time!
Use words that build each other up not tear them down! Enough said.

Many of you want to be a part of Saturday night but cannot. Oasis is your chance to be involved. We have many areas that you can participate so call me at 504-7620 for more info.

Now that you have an idea of what Tuesday night will look like, let me tell you about Saturday Night.
As the Parent Advisory Team began to meet in May we began looking at MS Life on Saturday nights. Quickly, we realized we were missing a great opportunity to impact a greater number of students through small groups. Also, we felt many parents and other volunteers may be able to invest in our kids that could not on Wednesday nights (our small group night last year).

Sat. Nights- MS Life Groups, 6:15-7:30pm @ church!
SO… Saturday nights will be a small group based experience from 6:15-7:30 at church. I have a very impressive list of leaders so far but we still need a couple more teams. A team consist of two men or two women that partner to lead a group of 4-6 students. Each team member is expected to lead 2 times per month. If you think you are not “cool” enough to lead a group that’s OK. See me and let me decide if you are cool enough! I will be honest, I promise. All the leaders so far are parents who want to be involved with changing lives and they realize once their kids go to high school they will not have the influence on students that they have now. God needs our availability not great ability!
Our curriculum for the year is found at www.studentlifebiblestudy.com. This curriculum will give us a creative, fun, and an in depth study. Leaders and students will love it.
Starting September 10, students can purchase a student devotional journal for $8. The devo will be for all year and the cool thing is it will supplement what is being taught on Saturday and Tuesday nights. I can’t wait to see what God can do when students and parents look at God’s Word together each night. Parents you have the privilege of being a cheerleader in your child spiritual growth.
If you have any questions, Please call me at the office 362-3142 x3 or on my cell at 504-7620.
