At South Shore, we feel that it's our responsibility to make it easy for you to come to church. We want you to be able to experience the great music, thought-provoking messages, friendly people and relaxed atmosphere that are a part of South Shore. And we know that your first time at a church, any church, brings up some questions.
The music of at South Shore Community Church is an expression of our joy and devotion to the Savior. It is also an expression of the times in which the congregation has come to age. Most music sets are carried by a guitar-based band comprised of electric lead, bass, acoustic, synthesizer or electric piano, 2 or 3 percussionists and vocals.
If you grew up listening to a stereo rather than a radio, you will like the music style at South Shore.

We hope to have the opportunity for the South Shore family to welcome your family next weekend. We have activities for all age groups and provide an opportunity for each family member to experience God through the Bible and other people just like you....
You don't have to believe in God to go to church. You don't have to know anything about God or the Bible to go to church. You don't have to clean up, dress up, or "get your act together" before you arrive. Come as you are.
Each weekend we worship God and learn about Christ. Many in attendance are just checking out this church thing to see what it is about. Some turned away from church in the past and are just trying to find out if they should give God another try. Some are at the end of what they know to do and are just hoping that God still cares. Others celebrate what God has done for them.
It doesn't matter where you are on your spiritual journey or if you haven't even started it yet. You are welcome at South Shore, just as you are, with all the baggage of your life and with all of your questions. We would love to explore with you. Hope to see you this Saturday night or Sunday morning.
If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. (1 Timothy 4:6)
The South Shore Community Church Statement of Faith summarizes our beliefs as a church. While our style of worship, approaches to evangelism, methods of discipleship, and avenues of ministry may seem innovative, our faith is rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ who is "the same yesterday, and today, and forever." Therefore, the sole authority for our theology, faith, and practice is Jesus Christ whose will is revealed in the Bible. South Shore employs a police officer to remain on campus each Saturday night during our services. The primary responsibility of the security team is the protection of our children ...
If you're visiting, we hope that our service is a gift to you. If South Shore is not your home church or if you are just "kicking tires," we prefer that you not contribute any money to our offering. Our offering time allows those who call South Shore home to give back to God a portion of the financial blessings He has given to them. We will not make you wear a visitor badge, stand up to be introduced, or singled out in any way. We want you to remain as anonymous as you desire so that you can stay well within your comfort zone. Regardless of your choice to remain stealth or become more visible, we encourage you to visit our church over several weeks to see what's going on at South Shore.
South Shore Statement of Faith
South Shore’s Beliefs
The following pages contain a summary of our beliefs, along with some explanatory comments to help clarify these teachings.
The Bible
The sole basis of our belief is the Bible, composed of the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament. The Bible was written by men who were inspired by God. We believe that the Bible in its entirety originated with God, and that it was given through the instrumentality of chosen men. Thus the Bible speaks with the authority of God, but also reflects the backgrounds, styles and vocabularies of the human writers.
The Bible is the record of God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of God's instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth --- without any mixture of error --- for its matter. It reveals the principles by which God judges us; and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. Because God cannot lie, the Bible is completely reliable, so we must let it judge us instead of us judge it. The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ. We do not accept doctrines, no matter what is claimed as their source, if they do not agree with what the Bible says; supposed "modern prophets", "new revelation", or any message --- even if apparently given miraculously --- must be tested by the Bible.

GOD
There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience. The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.
A. GOD THE FATHER
God as Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of His grace. All that He created is dependent on Him --- He made it out of nothing, keeps it together, can reshape it, and is Master over it. He is all powerful, all loving, and all wise. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ. He is fatherly in His attitude toward all men.

B. GOD THE SON
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation as Jesus he was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed and did the will of God, taking upon Himself the demands and necessities of human nature and identifying Himself completely with mankind yet without sin. He lived a life of perfect obedience to the Father and voluntarily atoned for the sins of all by dying on the cross as their substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body and appeared to His disciples as the person who was with them before His crucifixion. He ascended into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of the Father, where He, the only mediator between God and man, continually makes intercession for His own. He will return in power and glory to judge the world and to consummate His redemptive mission. He now dwells in all believers as the living and ever present Lord.

C. GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He was sent into the world by the Father and the Son to apply to mankind the saving work of Christ. Through illumination He enables men to understand truth. He exalts Christ. He enlightens the minds of sinners, awakens in them a recognition of their need of a Savior and regenerates them. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. The Holy Spirit's power and control are appropriated by faith, making it possible for the believer to lead a life of Christlike character and to bear fruit to the glory of the Father. He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. His presence in the Christian is the assurance of God to bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Christ. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, and ministry.

MAN
Man was created by the special act of God, in His own image, and is the crowning work of His creation. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Through the temptation of Satan man transgressed the command of God, and fell from his original innocence; whereby his posterity inherit a nature and an environment inclined toward sin, and as soon as they are capable of moral action become transgressors and are under condemnation. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God. The sacredness of human personality is evident in that God created man in His own image, and in that Christ died for man; therefore every man possesses dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.

SALVATION
The central purpose of God's revelation in the Bible is to call all people into fellowship with Himself. Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense salvation includes conversion, regeneration, sanctification, and glorification.
Conversion consists of a negative and a positive element: repentance, that is, turning from sin to God; and faith, that is, the acceptance of the promises and the work of Christ.
Regeneration is a work of God's grace whereby believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Sanctification is the experience, beginning in regeneration, by which the believer is set apart to God's purposes, and is enabled to progress toward moral and spiritual perfection through the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. Growth in grace should continue throughout the Christian life.
Glorification is the culmination of salvation and is the final blessed and abiding state of the redeemed.

THE CHURCH
The corollary of union with Jesus Christ is that all believers become members of His body, the Church. There is one true Church universal, comprised of all those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The Bible commands believers to gather together to devote themselves to worship, fellowship, discipleship, evangelism, and service. Wherever God's people meet regularly in obedience to this command, there is the local expression of the church. Under the watchcare of elders and other supportive leadership, its members are to work together in love and unity, intent on the one ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS
Spiritual gifts are bestowed on the body. All spiritual gifts are for the building up of the whole body, not for the enjoyment or the enrichment of the individual members possessing them. No one person has all the gifts, nor is any one of the gifts bestowed on all persons. Consequently, the individual members of the church need each other. Spiritual gifts are for service in the body, they are not signs of spirituality, nor are certain gifts necessary signs of the work of the Holy Spirit. Although not equally conspicuous, all gifts are important. The Holy Spirit apportions the various gifts to whom and as He wills. No gift may be demanded of God to give, and no person may impart a spiritual gift to another person --- spiritual gifts are the prerogative of Christ.

BAPTISM AND THE LORD'S SUPPER
Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. Baptism is a testimony to the believer's faith in the final resurrection of the dead.
The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby believers, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming.

UNITY
Members of New Testament churches should cooperate with one another in carrying forward the missionary, educational, and benevolent ministries for the extension of Christ's kingdom. Christian unity in the New Testament sense is spiritual harmony and voluntary cooperation for common ends by various groups of Christ's people. Cooperation is desirable between the various Christian churches, when the end to be attained is itself justified, and when such cooperation involves no violation of conscience or compromise of loyalty to Christ and His Word as revealed in the Bible.

STEWARDSHIP
God is the source of all blessings, temporal and spiritual; all that we have and are we owe to Him. Christians have a spiritual debtorship to the whole world, a holy trusteeship in the gospel, and a binding stewardship in their possessions. They are therefore under obligation to serve Him with their time, talents, and material possessions; and should recognize all these as entrusted to them to use for the glory of God and for helping others. According to the Bible, Christians should contribute of their means cheerfully, regularly, systematically, proportionately, and liberally for the advancement of the Redeemer's cause on earth.

EVANGELISM AND MISSIONS
It is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ and of every church of the Lord Jesus Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations. The new birth of man's spirit by the Holy Spirit means the birth of true love for others. Missionary effort on the part of all rests upon a spiritual necessity of the regenerate life, and is expressly and repeatedly commanded in the teachings of Christ. It is the duty of every believer to seek constantly to share the gospel with those who do not know Jesus Christ. Believers are to fulfill this duty by personal effort and by all other methods in harmony with the gospel of Christ.

LAST THINGS
God, in His own time and in His own way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. According to His promise, Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth; the dead will be raised; and Christ will judge all men in righteousness. The unrighteous will be consigned to Hell, the place of everlasting punishment. The righteous in their resurrected and glorified bodies will receive their reward and will dwell forever in Heaven with the Lord.

South Shore's Core Values
1. We believe that lost people matter to God, and therefore, ought to matter to the church.
2. We believe that the church should be culturally relevant while remaining true to the Word of God.
3. We believe that life and ministry should be done with others in small groups.
4. We believe that loving relationships should permeate every aspect of church life.
5. We believe that the goal of every Christ-follower should be to grow to become more like Christ.
6. We believe that anointed, biblical teaching is the catalyst for life-change in individuals and the church.
7. We believe that the church should operate as a unified community of servants who discover and employ their spiritual gifts.
8. We believe that the church should be led by men and women with leadership gifts, taught by men and women with teaching gifts and cared for by men and women with shepherding gifts.
9. We believe that excellence honors God and inspires people.
10. We believe that the church should make full, creative use of the arts to worship God in spirit and truth.
Helping People Find and Follow Jesus Christ
South Shore's mission statement is built on two basic assumptions.
1. First, we believe that God is looking for His "lost sheep." Jesus himself said, "For the Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost" (Luke 19:10). In 2 Chronicles 16:9 we learn that "the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His." God longs to have a personal relationship with each person that He has created. He desires that none should perish, and He rejoices each time a lost sheep comes to Him (Matthew 18:14).
2. Second, we believe not only that God is searching for mankind, but mankind is searching for God. Sadly, many are accepting a spirituality void of a personal relationship with God. Thus, the search continues
We believe God desires to use His Church to help people find and follow Him. At South Shore, we are deeply committed to bringing God and people together. Only through a relationship with Jesus Christ is a person truly united with God. But, God has chosen to use His people, the Church, as an instrument and vehicle of love and grace to those in our world who do not yet know Him.
The "find" side of our mission statement breaks down into two components:
1. We are to GO TO the unchurched and hurting in our neighborhoods, marketplace and schools with the love and acceptance of Jesus Christ.
2. We are to BRING them to experience and receive God's grace and forgiveness through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
We emphasize four strategic methods of going and bringing people to Christ:
1.) Relational Evangelism - each person is trained to personally lead another person to Christ (Becoming a Contagious Christian).
2.) Team Evangelism - small groups (especially "seeker groups") work together to lead others to Christ.
3.) Event Evangelism - various events are made available in which our members can invite people to come hear the gospel, i.e. seeker services, speaker events, concerts, etc.
4.) Meeting Practical Needs - the "Gifts from God" ministry meets the practical needs of unbelievers with the love of God with the intent of leading them to a saving knowledge of Christ.
God's passion for lost people is the driving force behind all that we do at South Shore. Our vision is to see thousands of people in our community and far beyond come to know Jesus Christ. Our heart aches for those who are searching for God.
We see ourselves as a hospital for the hurting. Our emergency room doors are wide open. Our people are ambulance drivers and paramedics who go and find the hurting in this community, realizing many people appear to be healthy but inwardly are searching for answers.
Jesus was moved by "spiritual seekers".
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." (Matthew 9:36-38)
We wish to be His workers and bring in the harvest.
Helping People Follow Jesus Christ
At South Shore we also recognize that God is not searching for converts, He is looking for fully devoted followers. When Jesus called His disciples, He said, "Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19). Jesus consistently called people to deep levels of commitment. He commissioned us as His followers, the Church, to "make disciples" (Matthew 28:18-20). A disciple is one who is willfully following Christ, one who is progressing in a life of maturity.
At South Shore we are as committed to helping people follow Christ as we are to helping them find Him. We have an intentional strategy for helping people progress in their relationship with God.
For example, the commitment to enter into biblical community is built upon a prior commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and to believer's baptism. The commitment to grow toward spiritual maturity is built upon the prior commitment to enter into community. The commitment to discover your ministry fit and serve God through the church is built upon the prior commitment to grow toward maturity. The commitment to discovering your life mission and sharing Christ with others is built upon the prior commitment to serving God through ministry.
The "follow" side of our mission statement breaks down into four components:
1. We are to NUTURE Christ followers to spiritual, physical and emotional health.
2. We are to TRAIN Christ followers to their full potential by providing them the tools and skills necessary for life transformation.
3. We are to EQUIP Christ followers to identify and use their spiritual gifts, passions, abilities, personality and experiences to build-up the church.
4. We are to SEND fully-devoted Christ followers out to impact their world for Christ.
At South Shore we believe that a commitment to go, bring, nurture, train, equip, and send will lead us to accomplish Christ's mission for our church to help people find and follow Jesus Christ.
