Welcome Parents

At South Shore, we know that it can be difficult to keep up with all of the things going on at our church. You can't be in the service, in Journey Kids, and at the MS Life Oasis Group and hear all that your kids are learning...... unless you listen to it on the web. ...[Read More] ::

3 Congregations for Parents

Help! What's up with three congregations? I need info.  If this sounds like you, relax! We will outline for you what every parent needs to know about three congregations. First, we are asking you to commit to attending either the 5:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. congregation at Bee Ridge on Saturday or the 10:40 a.m. congregation at Tuttle Avenue on Sunday. Which one you pick likely may revolve around your kids activities. Here are some points to consider:

  • Journey Kids runs during the 5:30 congregation at Bee Ridge Road on Saturday and the 10:40 a.m. service on Sunday at Tuttle Avenue.
  • Kidzown Klubhouse runs during the 7:00 p.m. congregation at Bee Ridge.
  • Most of the Journey Kids at Bee Ridge stay for Kidzown Klubhouse. They are taken there from Journey Kids. You will designate when you check them in if they are staying for both programs or not.
  • Parents are welcome and encouraged to join their Journey-Kids-age children in Kidzown Klubhouse during the second congregation because "parents are welcome in the klubhouse."
  • Nursery and Little Steps run during both the 5:30 and 7:00 congregations on Saturdays at Bee Ridge and the 10:40 a.m. service at Tuttle.
  • The Little Step program will be different during the 7:00 congregations- more of a "blue's clue's" type ...[Read More] ::

    Movie, Music, Game Reviews

We know that it can be difficult guiding children and young adults through the maze of movie and music ratings. There are so many negative influences on our children and parents need to stay informed. Thus, we recommend the following websites that can help to shed light on the content that your kids may experience at the movies or on their MP3 players.  The website for music, movies, tv shows and more is www.pluggedinonline.com , The website to review video games and movies is www.mediafamily.org . In addition, you can guide your kids to bands with a positive influence with a similar sound to their favorite band by reviewing www.christcoremusic.net. If you have further questions, contact Pastor Tony or Chris for additional help.

Pastor Tony's Pick for Parents

Hurt- Inside the World of Today's Teenagers -By Chap Clark.  Contemporary adolescents seem confident, well- adjusted, and happy. But beneath the surface, they're often lonely, insecure, and empty. What's going on? Claiming that adults have "abandoned" teens just when they most need support, Clark's ethnographic study examines today's changing youth culture from the inside out and suggests five strategies to "turn the tide of systemic abandonment."

Why Christian Kids Rebel- By Dr. Tim Kimmel.  Author of Grace-Based Parenting and the best-selling Little House on the Freeway, Dr. Tim Kimmel helps Christian parents avoid the potential problems their well-meaning parenting styles could create. This book offers a new way to look at the "ideal" Christian home and shows why "cocoon-style" Christian homes don't work. Many parents have "done it all" when it comes to the checklist of good Christian parenting, only to see their son or daughter step away from their belief system and embrace other lifestyle choices. Dr. Kimmel helps to increase the chances that your children will develop a vibrant faith early in life and stick with it on into adulthood. It will also provide help and hope for those already dealing with a rebellious teen and teach them how to lead the child back into a walk of faith.

Max Q by Andy Stanley and Stuart Hall. In the pages of this dynamic book we share six principles that will launch your students as they dare to move out from under the protection of the youth group and take the message of Christ to their peers. ::
